Being a music student in high school can be crazy, stressful, demanding, exhausting...and just plain a struggle. However there are a lot of times when there is no struggle. Once you get past the crazy band family, dedication issues, the valleys and making life plans...... you will realize that being a high school musician isn't really that much of a struggle.
What makes the struggle go away is living through the amazing moments you experience being part in any type of music program such as making it to state championships for the first time in seven years, or the moment when your director realizes how proud they are of the band. This being my third year in band in high school means I have just over two years worth of great memories that i'll never forget. Those memories aren't a struggle at all.
How is being a high school musician not a struggle?? Well in my opinion it's the things you learn, the memories you make, and the things you accomplish with the people you meet that matter the most. The past two years have been the best because of band. I met my best friends in marching band, progressed so much as a saxophone player, got to know my crazy band director, got close to 50 new people, got to see seniors graduate and watch them achieve, got to watch freshmen grow up, became comfortable in my own skin, gained more confidence, a bigger ego..ha...,I got to learn many life lessons, i got to feel so alive performing every Saturday, improve my leadership skills, become a better person, experience both failure and success, have my director make pickles for me, smile a lot, laugh until I cried,..........there is so much I can list. It is for these reasons that being a high school musician is not a struggle. (: #NotAStruggle #Boomba
